How the game works
Every card in Yogi is a constraint, such as "Hold this card above your head" or "Don't let your elbows touch the table". Each turn you draw one more card and must obey it as well as every card you already have, so the constraints pile up until you're tied in knots.
Break any constraint even for a moment, such as dropping a card or letting an elbow touch the table, and you are out at once. The last player still in wins.
Setup
- Shuffle the cards, split them into two piles and put each face down in a card holder.
- Place the holders so everyone can reach at least one pile.
- The calmest person at the table goes first, then play goes clockwise.
A turn
- Draw the top card from either pile.
- Read the constraint out loud so everyone hears it.
- Get into a position that obeys the new card without breaking any of your old ones.
- Pass to the player on your left.
Two kinds of card
| Kind | Where it goes | Example |
|---|
| Green | The card itself is what you deal with, such as holding or tucking it | Hold this card above your head |
| Orange or purple | Face up in front of you, where everyone can see it | Never say the word "yes" |
You may tuck cards into clothing or use things around you, but part of every card must stay visible; no hiding whole cards. The pictures are only suggestions: any pose that meets the constraint counts.
When you are out
- You break any constraint, even for a moment.
- You can't draw a card on your turn, for example because your pose won't let you reach a pile.
You can change position whenever you like, as long as you keep obeying every card.
Tips to last longer
- Choose your pile. Once one arm is busy, draw from the pile your free hand can reach.
- Get comfortable early. A stable seat from the first cards helps a lot when they pile up.
- Everyone referees. Watch each other, but don't nitpick so much that it stops being fun; this one is about laughing, not winning.
- Stay safe. Play with room around you, and don't force a pose that hurts.
